Bag a Used Yamaha MT-09 SP for Nearly 50% Off a New One

A 2019 used example of the more focused MT-09 is up for grabs for just £6990 – almost half that of the new one

As we explained in our 2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP review, it might be one of the best bikes of the year. However, at £11,806, or £1700 more than the standard, already excellent 2024 MT-09 and even £490 more than the outgoing old MT-09 SP (which is currently still available) it could be pricey enough to make you think twice.

Which is why this used, 2019 example which is currently up for sale at Fasttrack Motorcycles in Preston stands out.

Priced at just £6990 it’s almost half the expense of the new one (OK, it’s 59 per cent of the price if you want to be pedantic) for which you get virtually the same wonderous ‘CP3’ three-cylinder engine, similar uprated multi-adjustable suspension and comparable uprated finish and spec.

What’s more, being a two-owner used example, this one’s also sprinkled with appealing aftermarket accessories including a full Akrapovic exhaust system, R&G tail tidy, crash bobbins, fork sliders and rear peg covers, ASV levers and heated grips. Factor in the cost of adding those to the 2024 version and you will genuinely be looking at a 'half-price' MT-09.

On the downside, it’s not the brand-new model as just released which now has the racier riding position, new styling, new five-inch TFT screen and accompanying improved switchgear, new Brembo Stylema brakes and more that Yamaha have added to the 2024 bike.

Being a 2019 model, it’s not even the last incarnation, being an example of the original 847cc, 113bhp SP model first launched in 2018.  Meanwhile, this example’s mileage, having covered 20,000 might be more than many hoped for.

But reassuringly it’s also got a full, five-stamped service history, has all three keys and paperwork, is in seemingly immaculate nick, sounds like it’s been pampered and generally well looked after and, ultimately, at this money, you have to ask yourself, ‘How much of the new version do you actually need?’

And if this MT-09 doesn’t particularly convince, another eye-catching bargain at the same dealer is a 2019-plate Suzuki GSX-S1000 Katana with just 7900 miles under its wheels which also has a full-service history and a spare key and is currently being offered at just £6695. That’s also virtually half the price of the new one, which presently retails for £12,699!
