Tokyo Show – Six wild Kawasaki Z900 RS specials
New Z900 RS has caught the eye of all the big Japanese tuners
Kawasaki's new Z900 RS has been a big hit here in the UK. But it's also popular in Japan too, with almost every big tuning stand at the Tokyo bike show presenting their own take on the new bike. Here's our pick of the six best 'uns on show.
MORIWAKI
A legendary name, perhaps more often associated with Honda, but Moriwaki had their Z900RS on show, with a completely over-the-top machined rear swingarm. There's a lovely exhaust on there too, and some tidy rearsets, but nothing touches that swingarm, with its machined, rib-strengthened construction. Smart.

DOREMI Supercharged Z900 RS
This Z900 RS has two mad things going on – firstly the supercharger unit bolted on the side, which should help the old bus make nearer 200bhp, depending on how hard they go with the boost.
Secondly, to give it more of a 1970s look, the builders have swapped out the stock rims for _narrower_ 18-inch Morris Mag wheels – 2.75 18 and 4.5 18 sizes. That, plus the four-into-one pipe, Z1000 style tail unit and tank gives this Z900RS a totally different look from the stock machine.

Öhlins
The Swedish suspension firm was on tour, and had a couple of trick Z900RSs on its stand. Our fave was this one from Bright Logic, with an FGRT200 race USD fork up front and S46 DR1LS rear shock unit. Top-spec Brembo calipers, a neat pipe and some carbonio engine protectors/aero-fins round this classy special off a treat.

BEET
Another one of the big Japanese tuning firms, BEET had this Z900 on show at Moriwaki, with the firm's four-into-one Evolution titanium pipe. Race Brembo calipers up front complete the tough look.

Yoshimura
Fairly restrained mods from Yoshi, with a radiator protector and smart matt-black period four-into-one style pipe. Subtle stuff…

PMC (Performance Motorcycle Create)
The polar oposite of the stylish Yoshimura bike, this is the maddest Z900RS remix we saw at the show. A whole new KR750-style chassis and bodywork makes this beast look more like a Mick Grant racebike than a 2018 retro roadster. There's not much info on it, but PMC has been making parts for genuine 1970s and 80s Kawasakis for years now.
