GRT Yamaha Confirms Marvin Fritz In Place of Dominique Aegerter
GRT Yamaha has confirmed ex-WSBK racer Marvin Fritz as the replacement for Dominique Aegerter at Cremona
This weekend’s inaugural Cremona World Superbike round sees GRT Yamaha go into it without full-time racer Dominique Aegerter, following the Swiss rider’s injuries prior to the French round at Magny-Cours.
Aegerter suffered a motocross accident while training for the event, which included rib fractures and damage to his right shoulder. At Magny-Cours GRT Yamaha chose Alessandro Delbianco as the replacement for Aegerter, before confirming Fritz for this weekend.
A former WSBK rider, Fritz is best known for his time in the EWC (Endurance World Championship) with the factory Yamaha YART outfit, finishing second in the 2024 standings after securing a third place result in last weekend’s Bol’ d’Or. Fritz has not raced in World Superbike since the end of 2022.
Fritz said: “First of all, I would like to wish Dominique a speedy recovery! I cannot wait to be in Cremona, to ride for the GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team and the Yamaha R1 in the WorldSBK is like a dream for me, I’ll take care of Domi’s bike.
“I’ll have to adapt to a lot of things as since my last wild card in Portimao (2022) things have changed, but I’ll try to enjoy the weekend and do my best, having no pressure. I’m looking forward to meeting all the team, I’m confident it’ll be a nice experience.”
Alongside Fritz will be Remy Gardner, who topped one of the two test days at Cremona back in May. The Australian is currently ninth in the championship standings.
Gardner added: “Firstly, I would like to welcome Marvin in our team, wishing again a speedy and full recovery to Domi. I think Cremona could be an interesting round.
“It’s a new venue and almost everyone will race for the first time here, so anything could happen. In May we enjoyed a very positive test session there, so I’m looking forward to hit the track as I’m confident we could enjoy a strong weekend in Italy.”
