The former MotoGP, BSB, WorldSBK and current EWC racer Sylvain Guintoli has shared the news that no parent wants to, the cancer diagnosis of his son.

The news means Guintoli will be spending time with his family at home in the UK, and all other work, racing, and commentary commitments are currently postponed.

Releasing a statement on X (formally Twitter), the French racer stated:

“I am devastated to say that our youngest son has been diagnosed with cancer. Our little boy is fighting like a champ' and our family is united to support him.

“Unfortunately this means I will miss the last World Endurance Championship race, as well as the next few MotoGP races with TNTSports.

“We want to thank the NHS Children Oncology Team, BMW, NorthOne and WBD for their support in these difficult times.

“Sylvain & Family”

The news puts things very much into perspective, and while racing for many within the paddock is their life, events like this drive home that there is much more to it than racing around in circles.

All at Visordown send our thoughts and best wishes to Sylvain and his family at what must be a very difficult time.
