According to KTM, ten years of development has gone into the new KTM SX-E 5 children's e-bike, which is set to rival the dominance of the OSET MX-10

The E 5 is fully height adjustable and aimed at children of all abilities aged three to ten-years-old. It has six power modes, allowing for less experienced riders to gradually learn how to control the machine. On full power mode (5kW), the E 5 has about the same amount of grunt as KTM’s petrol-powered SX 50, but will require considerably less maintenance and produces almost no noise - making any potential customer far more popular with their neighbours...

The energy source for the SX-E 5 comes in the form of a lightweight lithium-ion battery pack securely mounted within the frame. The 84 Li-Ion cells deliver smooth and manageable power to a 48V BLDC electric motor. The motor mounts within a chassis that has apparently had the same amount of development as the bigger SX offroad models - as raced by the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team. In line with it’s ‘race ready’ ethos the E 5 is fitted with WP XACT 35 air fork technology, as well as the WP XACT shock absorber, and it features premium disc brakes, cast footpegs, tapered aluminum handlebars and racey ergonomics.

Here’s what Joachim Sauer, KTM Senior Offroad Product Manager, had to say about the new e-machine:

“The KTM SX-E 5 offers a premium chassis, like those on all of our SX models, but also a lot in terms of rideability thanks to the electric motor, as it’s easy to ride, but at the same time it can be super-fast without making noise.

The adjustability of the bike means that a rider can use it for years as they get faster – they can also be more independent in the operation of the bike, and apart from oiling the chain there is really minimal maintenance required. In terms of safety, the electronics team worked hard to reach a really high level, and so with top-level performance combined with a huge adaptability for the rider”

The new KTM SX-E 5 will be available during the last quarter of 2019 at authorized KTM dealers.
