Yamaha confirms 250cc sports bike (again)

YAMAHA Indonesia has confirmed it is working on a 250cc sports bike – rivalling Honda's CBR250R and Kawasaki's Ninja 300 – for launch later this year.

In a press conference yesterday, relating to Yamaha Indonesia's racing plans for 2013, the firm's Executive Vice President, Dyonisius Beti, told the local media to expect an invitation to the bike's launch.

Details haven't been forthcoming, but we're expecting the bike to follow the CBR250R route, with a single-cylinder engine and YZF-R125-alike styling.

Late last year, Yamaha’s Indian arm also confirmed it would have a 250-class sports bike as part of its 2014 model range. Honda too are ramping up their smaller-motorcycle offering with the announcement of the 2013 VTR250F.

Will the YZF-R250 come to Europe? It’s got to be on the cards.
