North Yorkshire Police has launched an investigation into two stolen motorcycles in Scarborough, one of which was set on fire.

The theft of two motorcycles occurred on Weaponess Valley Road, and it’s believed a group of individuals may have been involved in leading the theft.

One of the bikes was an orange KTM Duke, which was stolen before being set on fire, leading to the motorcycle being written off. Meanwhile, the other bike, also orange, was a BMW F800 which was later recovered close to where the theft occurred.

As if stealing a bike is not bad enough, the group of offenders that caused the fire were nowhere to be seen when it spread from the bike to a fence nearby, which resulted in the local fire service arriving on the scene.

A statement from North Yorkshire Police said: “We’re appealing for information about two motorcycle thefts that occurred in Scarborough.

“It happened on Weaponess Valley Road and a group of several people may have been involved. In one incident, a lock was cut from an orange KTM Duke. The motorbike was subsequently set on fire, causing it to be written off.

“The fire also spread to a nearby fence and was dealt with by the fire service. The second incident involved an orange BMW F800 which was later recovered nearby. It happened between 2am and 6am on Sunday, 2 March and an investigation is already under way.

“As part of this investigation, we’re now appealing for anyone who has yet to come forward with information, including anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage taken in the Weaponess Valley Road area around the time of the incidents."

On the North Yorkshire Police website an email address is included for anyone who is able to come forward with footage or information, or you can call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for PC503 Gonella. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
