Former 250 champ's son suffers severe injuries in Spanish championship crash
FORMER 250 World champion Sito Pons’s 16-year-old son Axel is expected to take six months to make a full recovery after suffering severe injuries in a multiple crash in a CEV Spanish championship race last weekend.
Axel, who made his GP debut at Jerez this year, was racing at the same track, lying fourth when he touched another bike and crashed at the exit from Dry Sack hairpin. He got to his feet only to be hit by a following bike, triggering a multiple crash.
He was rushed to hospital with a broken pelvis and multiple leg fractures, and internal injuries including a punctured lung.
