Austria given best MotoGP award by IRTA
The award was handed to the event by IRTA after a vote by the MotoGP paddock
THE Austrian MotoGP event was judged to be the best of the 2019 season after a vote of the MotoGP paddock and the International Racing Teams Association (IRTA).
The vote is not a judgement on the quality of the racing on track per se and is more of a reflection on the quality of the facilities and organisation behind the event.
Despite the method of judging, this year’s MotoGP race from the Red Bull Ring saw scintillating on-track action, with Andrea Dovisiozo and Marc Marquez battling race long and Dovisiozo only claiming the win at the final corner
The event did see a drop in visitor numbers when compared to 2018, with 9,431 fewer people through the gates. Despite this, the event did boast close to 200,000 visitors, placing it fourth in the attendance list for 2019 MotoGP events.
Austria previously won the IRTA Best Grand Prix accolade in 2016, the year it re-joined the motorcycle Grand Prix calendar.
