Jake Dixon Britain eyes Moto2 title, MotoGP move but only on ‘right package’
Jake Dixon wants to turn his first Moto2 podium into a first Moto2 victory and on to the title before targeting a progression to MotoGP
Jake Dixon is setting his sights high for the remainder of the 2022 Moto2 World Championship season after landing his long awaited maiden podium finish last time out at COTA, with the Briton confident his first win is now around the corner.
In his fourth season of Moto2 competition, Dixon has established himself as one of this year’s front runners and has already ticked off his first GP pole position in Indonesia and then he first podium around the Circuit of The Americas in the USA.
Currently seventh in the standings on the Aspar-run GASGAS Kalex, Dixon says the huge weight removed by securing that first podium after 49 attempts will help him in his quest to take his maiden win too.
“I’m in such a good place riding with the bike that it could be any round. It doesn’t have to be a certain round. When the timing is right, it will happen. I’m not going to push the situation."
Looking forward, Dixon is also keeping one eye on the future as he bids to return the Union Jack to the MotoGP class. The Dover rider started two MotoGP rounds with Petronas SRT Yamaha in 2020, a solid performance he hopes will contribute to him landing a competitive ride in the premier category.
"I’ll only go to MotoGP if the timing is right, and I have the right package underneath me. Unless you go with the right package, it’s super difficult to make an impact straight away. I don’t want to go and just make up the numbers straight away and then build my way into it as I have done with Moto2.
“I feel like on a MotoGP bike I have more of a scope to do even better than I am doing now because naturally, I think my style of riding is more towards the big bike."
