MotoGP winner Jack Miller scores podium on Australian Superbike bow
MotoGP star Jack Miller lands a podium on his Superbike debut as he scores a third place finish during the 2021 ASBK finale in Adelaide
MotoGP race winner Jack Miller marked his Superbike racing debut in the Australian domestic championship with a run to the podium during its finale event at The Bend.
Three weeks on from concluding the 2021 MotoGP World Championship in Valencia, Miller made a guest wild-card appearance in the Australian Superbike Championship title decider aboard a Ducati Panigale V4 R with standard electronics.
A double race winner on the Ducati GP21 - his first season as a factory ‘Corse’ rider - Miller didn’t take long to get himself up to speed, battling it out with the front runners during two red-flagged races.
Despite struggling with his starts and being taken out of Race 1 by Aiden Wagner when his countryman lost the front of his Yamaha while attempting to overtake, Miller bounced back in Race 2 with a run to third position behind new champion Wayne Maxwell and Cru Halliday.
"I think we can be pretty happy with that result," Miller said. "The boys really rode good today. I'm normally pretty good at starts but with this thing I'm trying to take off like I'm at the traffic lights and it won't work!
Having been denied the chance to compete earlier than planned due to Australia’s strict COVID restrictions, Miller says the opportunity to race even during his winter break was too good to pass up.
"It was a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone for coming, it's awesome to see ASBK like this.
"I love racing motorcycles, that's the whole reason we're here and I'd love to come back and do it again."
