SADLY, for fans of motorcycle road racing, the Isle of Wight Diamond Races have been postponed until 2022 due to the COVID-19 and the pressures it places on the island.

The inaugural event was slated to take place this October, but with local and national travel restrictions still playing havoc with major sporting events, the organisers have taken the difficult decision to postpone the event.

The date of the races in 2022 has not been decided, although the original date was devised to tie into the end of the BSB season. Carrying this over into 2022 would help bolster the number of riders able to take part in the fledgling event.

The event was hoped to bring a massive cash boost to the small island, with over 40,000 spectators expected to travel to and stay over for the duration of the event. The timing of the race was also key, landing at a time in the holiday calendar when B&Bs and campsites had started to empty as the summer season wound down.
