Pick up a piece of World Superbike history
THE Ducati 996 that Carl Fogarty retained his World Superbike championship in 1998 has gone up for sale on carandclassic.co.uk.
With two seasons without championship gold, 1998 saw Foggy return to championship glory. The season wasn't plain sailing and is noted as one of the British legend's closely fought titles, as in the midway point he was sixth in the standings, but through a consistent podium run overhauled Troy Corser and Aaron Slight in the final round at Sugo, Japan.
In 1998 Fogarty scored three wins and 14 podium finishes, but one of the infamous events during that year was the hard-fought race with Pierfrancesco Chili at Assen, where the flamboyant Italian claimed Foggy had caused him to crash and confronted him in parc ferme whilst wearing a dressing gown.
The bike is in excellent condition and comes with a host of spare parts including an engine, along with signed riding gear wore by King Carl.
No price is listed for the Foggy's Ducati 996, but with Troy Bayliss' BSB title-winning 996RS up for £50,000 and Valentino Rossi's Desmosedici GP11 fetching £196,649 we expect this bike to go for around £100,000.
