The 2025 Paulo Duarte FIM EnduroGP World Championship, which starts next month, has already cancelled one of its most anticipated events because of an unexpected reason.

The event in Romania has been cancelled due to an African swine fever outbreak in the area, which does not affect humans but can be contagious among pigs which live in the local area.

With the fever posing a significant threat to Romania’s agriculture, organisers of the championship have been left with no option but to scrap the event which will not be replaced.

The outbreak occurred at Hunting Ground No. 37 in Calugara, which overlaps the event’s roads and special test areas, therefore making it impossible for the off-road series to stage a weekend full of racing.

This decision has also been taken relatively early as the Romanian EnduroGP round was not set to take place until 20 June. The Romanian round is one of the most prestigious on the calendar so not running a race event in the country is a big blow to the championship.

Instead, the 2025 campaign will now consist of seven rounds, starting on 4 April in Fafe, Portugal. From there the series will head to Oliana in Spain on 2-4 May, before Skövde, Sweden hosts round three on 23-25 May.

The championship then comes to the United Kingdom in August with the GP of Wales in Rhayader on 1-3 August, followed by Réquista, France on 12-14 September. Italy’s Darfo Boario Terme will host the penultimate round of the year on 26-28 September before Zschopau, Germany, could play a role in deciding the title race if it goes down to the wire on 17-19 October.

A statement from the series organisers said: “The FIM, Romania Motorcycle Federation (FRM), Prime Stadium, and LX-Cape Motoclub regret to announce that, despite their best efforts, they have been forced to cancel the EnduroGP of Romania, which was scheduled for June 20-22 in Bacău.”
