This Superbike Comes With an Attachable Roof

If riding motorcycles is your thing but wearing a wetsuit isn’t, this roof attachment for a Yamaha R1 might be all you’ve ever wanted

Motorcycles are obviously excellent, but their downfall, if there is one, comes with the rain. Without a roof on the bike itself to keep the rider protected from the elements, they must protect themselves. Except, maybe they don’t.

Meanwhile, the Yamaha R1 is undoubtedly one of the most iconic superbikes ever made, although its time being built as a road-going superbike is coming to an end.

In fact, the Yamaha R1 could be described as one of the standout motorcycles in the history of motorised two-wheeled transport.

But it’s not one of the most practical. The whole thing is designed to get back to the start line of any track faster than any other bike, and that means you have to compromise a little on comfort and luggage capacity — you won’t be sliding a laptop under the seat of an R1 how you would a TMax, for example. And, of course, there’s no roof. What an oversight!

The guys at Meanwhile in the Garage clearly thought so, too, so they built a roof for a 2007 R1.

It’s clearly pretty restrictive — you won’t be dragging ‘bow with this attached and you might fall short of the Donington Park lap record, but it will keep you dry while doing so as demonstrated in the video above.

That, combined with the fact that a Yamaha R1 is much cooler than a Honda Elysium, C1 or Peugeot HYmotion, must make this particular R1 one of the best motorcycles with a roof in the world.
