CFMoto Wants Majority Stake in KTM, But What About MotoGP Investor?
It’s being reported that CFMoto wants a majority stake in KTM, but could that lead to the MotoGP project undergoing significant change?
CFMoto is reportedly interested in owning a majority stake in KTM, while an investor is being sought after for the Austrian brand’s MotoGP project which has carried on as normal in 2025 despite the recent financial crisis.
Together with Bajaj Auto, CFMoto has played a key role in helping KTM remain intact following a desperate few months where it laid off over 750 employees, filed for self-administration and suffered debts of close to €3 billion.
But KTM’s big break was confirmed in February when a decision on its restructuring plan, which was very much in the balance, was approved by creditors and as a result production of KTM bikes can once again begin.
KTM’s 2025 models will begin to roll off the production line starting next week. The approved restructuring plan also means that KTM’s numerous creditors will have 30 per cent of their claims paid by the Austrian company, with the total bill said to be 548 million euros.
These funds have to be with the restructuring administrator by May 23, 2025, before the restructuring plan ends in June once all the proceedings have officially become legally binding.
In a bid to save KTM from being erased from the two-wheel sector, Bajaj contributed €50m (close to £42m) to restart production, while an additional €100m (£83.8m) will land in KTM’s palms by the end of March.
But according to GPOne.com, CFMoto has expressed interest in replacing Stefan Pierer as a majority stake holder in the company. Alongside that, a new investor is reportedly being sought for the MotoGP project which costs around €40m (£33.5m) to run per year.
There’s already been plenty of change at KTM in 2025 as Gottfried Neumeister has become the new CEO of the company, while Stephan Zochling, who is the CEO and co-owner of exhaust maker Remus, has become the chairman of the Supervisory Board.
