Cumbria Police Seize Motorcycle with “Dangerous Defects”
The Copeland Police force in Western Cumbria has seized a motorcycle with “dangerous defects” after it was also caught without a valid MOT since August 2024
A motorcyclist in Western Cumbria has had his bike taken away after it was found to be without an MOT or valid road tax, but wait for it, the motorcycle was also deemed to have “dangerous defects” as well.
The motorcycle, which had failed an MOT in August 2024 and had no road tax since September 2024, was seized by the Cumbria Constabulary Nuclear Estates Team at Moresby Parks near Whitehaven on Wednesday, 12 March.
After the bike had been seized, Copeland Police then urged the public to ensure that their vehicles meet the correct road safety and environmental standards.
On top of having his bike seized by the police, the rider received a traffic offence due to the lack of an MOT which brings with it a fine of £100.
A statement on social media from the Copeland Police unit said: "Cumbria Constabulary Nuclear Estates Team (CCNET) officers PC 2716 and PC 2102 sighted a motorcycle on the road, untaxed since September 2024 and without a valid MOT since March 2024.
"Unbelievably still, it failed an MOT in August 2024 and has been ridden on the roads with dangerous defects since.
"An MOT is a yearly test which checks that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards and ensures the vehicle is roadworthy. Do you know when your vehicle MOT is due?"
Riding a bike without insurance, a valid MOT or road tax is bad enough, but doing so with a bike that could cause harm to the rider and other members of the public is a careless decision this particular rider will be regretting.
