A long-standing race bike business in Dudley near Birmingham suffered a huge fire outbreak less than two weeks ago which resulted in around £200,000 worth of damage, but help could be on the way as an online fundraiser has been started.

Trident MCS is the business that suffered the extensive fire damage and its motorcycle workshop has been completely wrecked as a consequence. The business is known for manufacturing Rob North Trident and Rocket Three race bikes. The fire at Mons Hill in Woodsetton resulted in crews from eight different fire stations being called into action after a call was made.

As well as £200k worth of damage to bikes, tools and other equipment were damaged as well, leaving the company’s future up in the air. To make matters worse, the firm had no insurance in place to cover the damage, as the previous policy had lapsed while owner, Les Whiston, was recovering from a near fatal motorcycle accident sustained at a race meeting last August.

But in a bid to help, Mallory Park-based motorcycle dealer Huggy’s Speed Shop has opened an online GoFundMe page. The fundraiser began on 21 March and the initial aim of raising £2,000 has already been met. 55 donations have been made at the time of this writing.

A statement on the fundraiser page said: “We at Huggy’s Speed Shop are hoping to raise some funds for the devastating fire damage to the whole of Les Whiston's The Rob North Triples business in Dudley which he has run for many years. He is a massive part of the classic racing & motorcycle community. I hope I'm not talking out of turn but I believe everything is lost in the fire. So come on everyone, let's all get together and show what the friends and followers can do, please give what you can to help Les and family and make life a bit easier for them at this awful time.”

People wishing to donate can do so by visiting the GoFundMe website.
