Royal Enfield file for ‘Shotgun’ motorcycle brand name
An application for the term Royal Enfield Shotgun has recently been filed, is a new cruiser motorcycle incoming?
ROYAL ENFIELD has recently filed for the trademark of ‘Royal Enfield Shotgun’, it seems like a new motorcycle could be on the way!
Or the oldest motorcycle brand in continuous production is planning on harking back to their roots, and release an actual Shotgun - unlikely.
This was reported by BikeWale amongst others, who found the application of the Word Mark ‘Royal Enfield Shotgun’, eligible to be used in: ‘Motorcycles, Motorized Scooters, Motor Scooters, Electrically Powered Motorcycles’ alongside many other possible uses.
What is the Royal Enfield Shotgun going to become?
Could this Shotgun could relate to a potential Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 for use with the recently spotted cruiser, that has yet to be formally announced? Further yet, would a new cruiser be part of a revisited 650 twins approach, similar to the Continental GT and Interceptor 650, with two models sharing the same motor but with slightly different approaches?
Aside from the ‘out of this world’ Meteor 350, the gun theme continues from their ‘Bullet 500’ model in the UK, so a 650cc cruiser named the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 makes perfect sense.
It has also been reported that the now Indian-owned brand has also filed for various other names in the recent few months, including Roadster, Hunter, Sherpa, Flying Flea - whilst some may be just bookmarked for potential use, others may be set for release fairly soon.
I genuinely feel like I say this every time a Royal Enfield story pops up, but if the Sherpa ends up being a Himalayan with a twin 650cc motor in, I’ll be a very happy man.
We’ll keep you in the loop with this developing story, until then keep your chambers loaded. Keep it Visordown.
