Watch: motorcyclist doing almost 100mph refuses to stop for police
Twenty-two-year-old with no insurance or full licence 'panicked' when told to stop
POLICE video shows the moment a motorcyclist clocked at speeds approaching 100mph refused to stop for an officer.
James Ireland, 22, was spotted speeding by a police motorcyclist but sped off when the officer switched on his siren and indicated he should pull over.
The officer gave pursuit as Ireland sped past traffic on the single-carriageway A1604 near Acle, Norfolk, but abandoned the chase when it became too dangerous.
Ireland was later arrested and said he had panicked when the officer told him to stop after spotting him speeding on the A47 on August 4 last year.
Ireland admitted dangerous driving and riding without insurance or a full licence.
He was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court to an 18-month driving ban and given a 12-month community order with 120 hours’ unpaid work.
Recorder Douglas Herbert told Ireland he had nearly “written off” his hopes of joining the army with his dangerous driving conviction.
