Honda GL1800 Gold Wing Family Gets 50th Anniversary Updates
Honda has given both its standard and Tour GL1800 Gold Wing models a fresh look to celebrate its 50th anniversary
To celebrate its 50th anniversary Honda has introduced several new colourways to its GL1800 Gold Wing family, with models of the past steering the styling changes.
As part of the refresh, a new Eternal Gold and Mahogany Brown option have been added to the fold. The Gold Wing family’s last big revolution came in 2018, and although these light updates keep the bike very much in the same form as it was, the new colourways add a touch of glamour to the GL1800 range which features three anniversary colours and a fourth non-anniversary option.
Alongside the new paint schemes, the anniversary models receive a special badging between the seat and fuel cap, as well as on the bike's Smart Key. When switching the bike on a “Since 1975” message will appear in honour of the 50-year anniversary.
Aside from the colour updates and unique badging, the light update includes the removal of the Gold Wing’s native navigation system, allowing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as the standard map options.
Bolstering the same 1,833cc six-cylinder engine as before, all four models receive a new O2 sensor and updated ECU settings in order to comply with Euro5+ emission rules. Producing 124.7bhp, the new models will feature four rider modes including Tour, Sport, Econ and Rain.
Each of the four modes offer a different throttle mapping combination, combined anti-lock braking systems and Honda Selectable Torque Control. Cruise control and hill start assist are also offered as standard equipment across each model. Information is displayed on a seven-inch TFT screen, while other standard features include a tyre pressure monitoring system and heated grips. Tour models come standard with a heated seat. A Home Link System remote garage door control is also available as an additional option.
