Kawasaki has been behind the eight ball when it comes to middleweight adventure motorcycles, however, a model that could be named KLE 650 was teased at Motorcycle Live and offered a glimpse into what a true off-road model from the Japanese brand might look like.

Covered in a black box with just the front tyre and a small section of the fairing visible, Enduro21 has provided further details as to what Kawasaki’s new adventure model could consist of.

First of all, the name, it appears as though it could be called KLE as this was branded on the exterior of the box. There was also writing which said “life’s a rally” which gives away that it will be an adventure bike even if images weren’t available.

Enduro21 is also reporting that the bike will feature a twin-cylinder engine that’s likely to be a variation of the 650 power unit found in the Ninja and Versys street bike lineups. Also visible are the black suspension forks with long travel and Nissin brake callipers, alongside a 21-inch front wheel and knobbly off-road tyres.

If this KLE 650 is everything it appears to be, Kawasaki would be producing a middleweight adventure bike that’s likely to fit in the segment against rivals such as the Yamaha Tenere 700, the Honda Transalp and the recently updated KTM 790 Adventure model.

The large Versys range sits within Kawasaki’s adventure touring category and is more tailored to the road, while the KLR 650, which was last new in 2023, is not quite up to scratch when comparing it against its newer and more developed rivals.

Other details are very scarce to this point but it does appear as though Kawasaki is making a conscious effort to bring a more modern and competitive middleweight adventure model to the market soon.
