KTM’s famous R badge is not just for its big-bodied 1290 Super Adventure or new-for-2025 890 Adventure, as the 390 range is receiving the same treatment alongside a brand-new X model which will land in the Autumn.

The R model is an out-and-out off-road mini ADV bike, while the new X is tailored slightly more towards the road, making it more versatile for both on and off-road riding. First to hit UK dealers will be the 390 Adventure R which will land in March. Priced at £6,699, the new model receives an updated LC4c powerplant that will deliver 44.2bhp and 28.7Ib ft of torque; the same goes for the X model.

KTM says its new small-capacity R and X models will be the best variants of the 390 range to date, and part of that is down to the suspension used which comprises WP Apex 43 forks at the front and WP Apex Split Piston set-up in the rear.

The front suspension provides 230mm of travel, which is also the case at the rear. With a seat height of 870mm, the new 390 models will particularly suit taller riders and ground clearance comes in at 272mm.

The braking system features dual two-piston Bybre radial callipers on the front and a single-piston Bybre calliper out back. The X model, despite its more affordable price of £5,399, receives the same braking but the suspension is different as the R is fully adjustable while the X is not.

The suspension travel is also shorter aboard the X - 200mm both front and rear. The seat height is also lower at 825mm as is the ground clearance which sits at 232mm.

The new KTM 390 Adventure R represents the first ‘R’ model to be built outside of the Austrian company’s facility, with production taken care of by Indian partners Bajaj Auto.

The new models are largely built on the 390 Enduro model which landed in January, however, there are key differences including a larger tank by five litres on the adventure models (14-litre tank), alongside a new rally-inspired fairing which features full LED lighting.
