A KTM MotoGP Team Bought by Lewis Hamilton? Not so Fast!

First there were rumours of buying Gresini Racing earlier this season, now its the turn of KTM due to its ongoing financial problems, but Lewis Hamilton will not be buying a KTM MotoGP team

Will Lewis Hamilton one day buy a MotoGP team? It sure looks as though he could, but it won’t be a KTM team in 2025 with the Austrian brand, reportedly telling GPOne.com as much.

Hamilton’s first foray into ownership of a sports team (or as the Americans like to say, a franchise) took place when he became part of the ownership of the Denver Broncos NFL team.

Hamilton, who is jumping ship to Ferrari from Mercedes for the 2025 F1 season, had made it no secret that owning a MotoGP team is something he would consider, and rumours linking him to Gresini Ducati began to surface earlier this season.

So much so, eight-time world champion Marc Marquez even commented on the prospect of Hamilton owning a team during a press conference, so it certainly appears as though there were legs to that narrative, but how serious the interest was at the time is not known.

While buying a stake in Gresini Racing did not materialise although that’s not to say it couldn’t be a team he looks at in the future, KTM’s financial issues, which led to the manufacturer going into self-administration a couple of weeks ago, have led to Hamilton’s name being in the MotoGP world once again.

But according to GPOne.com, KTM has refuted any talk of Hamilton buying one of its two MotoGP teams, with Tech 3 manager Herve Ponchoral telling the Italian outlet: “These rumours are completely unfounded. There’s not a shred of truth in them. And I assume this also applies to the factory team.”

KTM has also refuted ideas that its MotoGP program is at risk, so that alone would rule Hamilton out as its factory team has a contract with Dorna until the end of 2026, while Tech 3 is very much settled as its satellite team partner.
