The Machine Shop to Try Crazy Record at Motorcycle Live
The team will be attempting what could be a world record for the “fastest disassemble and reassemble of a motorcycle”
We’ve seen bikes getting built at Motorcycle Live, and even some of Suzuki UK’s heritage fleet was restored at the show. But we’ve never seen anyone take apart a bike, and then build it again, and certainly not at the speed this team is looking to do.
The team hails from the West Midlands-based workshop called The Machine Shop. It’s a bit like a gym, in that it has all the equipment and tools in place (as well as advice and training), but instead of building muscle, you can build, repair, or maintain your bike.
The good news for the team is that there is no target to chase here, but instead of simply sticking an easily achieved target on this one, they are gunning for an extremely quick time. Taking on the challenge will be a team of six people who will physically handle the bike and the tools. They hope to be able to completely disassemble and then reassemble the Suzuki SV650 in a time somewhere around the six-minute mark.
All in all, there are 13 steps included in taking the bike apart, and the attempt is being modelled on the existing record for the fastest reassembly of a Jeep. Taking their inspiration from that record-breaking act (which took only 1 minute and 16 seconds to complete!), the SV650 will be fitted with some special fittings and quick-release parts just as the Jeep was.
The team will be honing their skills daily, and practice runs will take place every day at 1:40pm on the Expert Lab stage - right in front of The Machine Shop's stand (Hall 3A, Stand 3C30). The final and "official" (hopefully record-setting attempt) will be on the last day of the show (November 24th) at 1:40pm on the same Expert Lab stage.
As well as the record attempt due to take place at the show, the team will also be running interactive demos for people of all ages, including welding, powder coating, and wheel-changing experiences.
Motorcycle Live will be taking place at the NEC Birmingham between 16 and 24 November. Bikes making their public debuts at the show this year will be the Yamaha R9, and Honda’s updated CB750 Hornet which will be joined on stage by its new larger sibling, the CB1000 Hornet and Hornet SP.
