Marc Marquez has become the first rider ever to claim back-to-back pole positions, sprint and Grand Prix wins in the first two rounds of a MotoGP season.

After his dominant Factory Ducati debut during the season-opener in Thailand, Marquez then went on to complete a second consecutive hat-trick at the Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit, one of his favourite tracks on the calendar.

The former Repsol Honda rider, like in Buriram, took pole position ahead of his brother Alex Marquez, but this time with a new all-time lap record, despite the 2025 Argentine round being his first trip to the South American circuit in six years.

Following that Marquez was the clear-cut favourite heading into the races, although Saturday’s sprint turned into a nervy affair as his brother pushed him all the way, with Marc Marquez winning by less than a second.

During the Grand Prix, the margin was not that much bigger as the series leader came across the line 1.4 seconds clear of the Gresini rider, with both men well clear of their fellow chasing Ducati rivals.

Speaking after his latest hat-trick, Marquez said: “The race pace was incredible and I had a few moments in the final laps. Alex pushed me to the limit: we were both able to lap in the low 1’38s, and we really made the difference.

“It wasn’t easy to overtake him, as the only spot was at turn five. The first time I tried, I ended up wide, but then I was able to make it stick at the second attempt as I was a lot closer to him. I’m happy for my team as they did an incredible job.

“We weren’t in such a perfect condition as in Buriram, my riding was not as smooth, but the lap-times came and that’s what matters. I can’t wait for the next race weekend at Austin, especially given the moment we’re living in right now.”
