New: 2014 Harley-Davidson Low Rider

Low Rider returns to Harley line-up after five years... with a new seat

New: 2014 Harley-Davidson Low Rider

HARLEY-DAVIDSON has announced a new Low Rider model for 2014.

A release from the firm said: 'The iconic Low Rider returns to the Harley-Davidson line-up after a five-year hiatus with timeless custom cruiser styling and enhanced performance. An innovative ergonomic design –informed by the same customer-led development used to drive Project RUSHMORE – provides a perfect fit for a broad range of riders.

'With a seat height of just 680mm, the Low Rider still lives up to its name. In addition, Harley-Davidson has leveraged the science of ergonomics to develop a “perfect fit” rider position using three key features: a two-position seat, adjustable handlebar riser and footpegs that are relocated two inches (51mm) forward.

'Its defiant attitude remains, but the new Low Rider responds with assertive authority to rider input; the unrelenting thrust of its Twin Cam 103 powertrain harnessed in an agile Harley-Davidson Dyna® chassis. Michelin® Scorcher™ tyres are mated with suspension calibrated for all-day comfort and precise handling, while dual-front disc brakes deliver capable stopping power.

'A polished headlamp visor and wrinkle black trim are touchstone styling elements from the original Low Rider model, while ample Genuine Motor Accessories offer endless possibilities for self-expression.'

HARLEY-DAVIDSON has announced a new Low Rider model for 2014.

Originally launched in 1977, the Low Rider returns to the line-up after a five-year hiatus with updated styling and 'enhanced performance' according to Harley - although the press material focusses mainly on the seat.

It's got a two-position seat and adjustable handlebar riser to create 'prefect fit' rider position, the firm says. The rider foot-pegs have also been moved forward 51mm.

Paul Weiss, lead engineer on the project, said: “Inspired by the idea that you’d adjust a car seat to meet the controls, we devised the two-position Low Rider seat that can move the rider forward or backward 1.5 inches (38mm)...

"The final change was relocating the footpegs two inches forward of the previous Dyna mid-mount position.”

The Low Rider has a 1690cc air-cooled V-twin engine making a 92lbft of torque, with no claimed power figure. It weighs 296kg dry.

Prices start from £12,295 plus on-the-road charges.
