New: 2014 Harley-Davidson SuperLow 1200T
New 'lighter touring option'. Or a Sportster with bags and a screen to you and us
HARLEY-DAVIDSON has announced a new SuperLow 1200T model for 2014.
The SuperLow 1200T adds touring features to the Sportster model including bags and a screen to make a 'lighter touring option'.
According to Harley, it's lighter than the lightest HD big twin tourer by 55.3kg (think one of the average US owners' legs). It still weighs 271.62kg fuelled.
It's got a 1200cc V-twin air-cooled engine making 71lbft of torque with no claimed power figure.
Prices start from £9,495 plus on-the-road charges.
A release from the Harley said: 'With the introduction of the SuperLow 1200T, Harley-Davidson opens the door to a lighter touring option – a motorcycle that combines a nimble chassis with essential touring features. Weighing in at 53.5kg less than the lightest Harley-Davidson Big Twin touring motorcycle, it is the lightest touring bike in the line-up. Its ergonomics are calibrated to offer riders from 5’1” to 5’7” in height an easy reach to the ground, handlebar and foot controls.
'Thanks to the power of a 1200cc Evolution V-Twin engine, the SuperLow 1200T can run with the pack, while the rear shock absorbers offer easy pre-load adjustment to accommodate the weight of luggage and passenger on the two-up Reduced Reach™ touring seat.
'The rider position is three inches forward from the SuperLow 883 to make it easier to place feet flat on the ground and to reach the side stand.
'The SuperLow 1200T features the same easy-handling chassis dynamics originally developed for the SuperLow 883. Fork angle, wheel sizes and radial tyres were engineered as a package to reduce steering effort and provide responsive handling to help rider and machine glide through corners. Anti-lock Braking System and H-D Smart Security System with a proximity-based security fob and keyless ignition are also offered as standard equipment.
'The finish is premium Harley-Davidson with aluminum wheels, optional two-tone paint scheme and plenty of chrome. A detachable windshield, locking saddlebags and Michelin® Scorcher™ 11T touring tyres are standard equipment, while docking points accommodate detachable accessory racks and backrests for ease of customisation. A new seat and control ergonomics are shaped specifically to give more riders long-distance comfort.'
