Updated BMW R nineT revealed
New colours and wire-spoked wheels for BMW’s flagship heritage model
Last week BMW unveiled this updated 2017 version of its R nineT, with styling updates and wire-spoked wheels.
It’s got a new instrument cluster, with two separate clocks replacing the single integrated unit of the old model for a more classic look.
The Paralever swing-arm and drive shaft have gone black to match the frame and engine and two new paint schemes have been added as ‘optional equipment items’ – presumably meaning they’ll cost extra.
The first, called ‘Blackstorm metallic / Vintage’ (and pictured above) is black and silver with a yellow ‘21’ on the aluminium tank and seat hump.
The second (below) is called ‘Blueplanet metallic / Aluminium’ and features metallic blue in the middle of the clear-finished aluminium tank. The same metallic blue is on the front mudguard.
BMW says the suspension geometry has been ‘optimised’ for ‘greater steering precision’.
The 1170cc air-cooled boxer-twin engine still makes 110hp but now meets Euro4 emission limits.
The 2017 R nineT was unveiled at the Eicma motorcycle show in Milan, Italy, along with the new R nineT Urban G/S, with price to be confirmed.
