A special version of the Yamaha MT-09 has been unveiled at the Osaka Motorcycle Show in Japan, as the Cyber Rally evokes the style of the MT-09 Street Rally of 2014.

Created using Japanese firm Y’S Gear aftermarket parts, the Cyber Rally revives the short-lived Street Rally, albeit with updated styling and parts to fit with the styling of the newly updated mid-weight MT.

Cleaning up the front end of the bike is a neat-looking clear plastic headlight cowl, that completely encompasses the divisive headlight of the machine, spreading upwards to create a small cowling that protects the newly developed TFT dash.

The most striking feature of the bike is the addition of winglet-style handguards, a feature that was so prominent on the official Street Rally when it was released. It’s difficult to tell from the picture whether they are genuine carbon fibre, or etched plastic that mimics the carbon weave at a fraction of the cost.

The trinkets continue the flanks of the machine, which feature updated radiator covers with added gill-slits for improved cooling. They envelop the radiator of the MT and help to smooth out the front quarter of the bike quite nicely. The only other change (that we can spot anyway) comes in the form of an aftermarket exhaust system that seems to be the same Akrapovič item we fitted to our MT-09 last year.

It's important to note that while Y’S Gear is linked to the Yamaha brand, this isn’t (as far as we can tell) an official reveal from Yamaha. The Street Rally does have a bit of a cult following in some regions though, and Yamaha top-brass will likely be following the feedback from owners and fans.
