The 2021 British Superbike Championship may be getting the chance to make the most of a longer pre-season period but that hasn’t stopped preparations being hampered by the UK’s typically inclement weather.

With cold conditions and rainy weather persisting into May, the well-attended official three-day test at Snetterton was largely washed out with only a handful of laps being completed in total.

With 26 riders travelling to Norfolk for what should have been the clearest indication yet of the potential formbook before the season eventually kicks off on June 25-27 at Oulton Park, Honda rookies Takumi Takhashi and Ryo Mizuno completed the most laps at 15 apiece once the skies cleared briefly on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite the limited running, lap times were still customarily close around one of the longer circuits on the BSB calendar with VisionTrack Ducati rider Iddon - who scored his first win at Snetterton in 2020 - quickest with a 1m 49.162secs time, ahead of fellow Panigale V4 R rider Tommy Bridewell.

Behind them, BMW with its new M1000RR had an encouraging test with its three leading teams in the mix, headed up by Danny Buchan on the Synetiq (TAS) in third, ahead of Rich Energy OMG’s Kyle Ryde in fourth and FHO Racing’s Peter Hickman in fifth.

Glenn Irwin was sixth fastest on the factory Honda CBR1000RR-R, followed by his brother Andrew - competing on the Synetiq BMW this year - and another M1000RR representative in Xavi Fores in seventh and eighth.

Kawasaki duo Ryan Vickers and Lee Jackson rounded out the top ten, just ahead of top Suzuki rider Gino Rea in 11th.

Elsewhere, Rory Skinner was the highest-placed BSB rookie in 13th position on the FS-3 Kawasaki, with Danny Kent in 15th, the pair split by the highest-placed Yamaha rider in Jason O’Halloran.

Despite the washout, the BSB field has two more chances to get the mileage in before the opener with more tests scheduled for Oulton Park [19 May] and Oulton Park [8 June]
