WATCH: Fiery British MotoGP crash hospitalises Ducati’s Dovizioso
Andrea Dovizioso is given the all-clear by doctors after being hospitalised in the wake of a dramatic crash on the opening lap of the British MotoGP at Silverstone
Andrea Dovizioso has been taken to hospital for head scans after suffering a ‘momentary loss of memory’ immediately after a heavy crash on the first lap of the British MotoGP at Silverstone.
The Ducati MotoGP rider was the innocent victim of Fabio Quartararo’s accident up ahead, the Frenchman high-siding out of Copse, which led to his Petronas SRT Yamaha sliding out wide and into the path of Dovizioso.
With no chance to react, Dovizioso clattered into it and launched over the top, coming down heavily as a consequence.

Initially stretchered off by medics, though Dovizioso was able to get up and walk with assistance behind the barriers, a ‘momentary loss of memory’ would see him taken to Coventry Hospital for more thorough head scans.
However, Ducati has since confirmed he has been discharged having had ‘further complications’ excluded and will now return to Italy to recover.
Dovizioso came into the weekend 58 points shy of Marquez in the fight for the 2019 MotoGP title, but the accident – coupled to his rival’s second place finish at Silverstone – arguably puts paid to his championship challenge with only seven rounds remaining.
