Yamaha Expands E-Bike Business with Acquisition of Brose
Yamaha is acquiring German brand Brose and its e-bike motor business in a bid to expand its green mobility project

Yamaha is set to complete takeover of German brand Brose and its e-bike motor business, subject to approval by the antitrust authorities.
The Japanese company’s Motor eBike Systems will take over the e-bike drive and systems business by June 2025, with the sale taking place due to Brose's strategic realignment and focus on its core business areas.
Yamaha will use Brose's development resources in the e-bike sector to be at the forefront of planning and design of new products. It also plans to establish its own e-bike systems development base in Europe to meet market requirements quicker.
The acquisition sees the business become a new Yamaha subsidiary that has been established in Germany, and named Yamaha Motor eBike Systems GmbH (YMESG). Brose specialises in door systems and electric motors, as well as other devices, and it has been selling bicycle drive units since 2014.
Yamaha will gain Brose’s eKit development capabilities to further strengthen the planning and development of new products. This, plus setting up shop in Europe, means Yamaha will be able to build an operation that can respond quickly to local customer demands, as well as gaining new customers.
While directly linked to Yamaha in Japan, the new YMESG firm will work closely with its sister company, Yamaha Motor Europe.
The electrical power-assisted bicycle business is expected to see long-term growth as a result of this takeover, and it is a strategic line in Yamaha’s new Medium-Term Management Plan (2025-2027) that was recently announced in February.
“We are convinced that Yamaha offers the best conditions to successfully develop the business further. At the same time, we would like to thank our employees for their commitment and dedication,” says Raymond Mutz, Executive Vice President Drives, Brose Group.
