There was, understandably, a fair bit of a furore when Harley-Davidson removed the much-loved 883 and 1200 ‘Sportster’ models from its EU range in 2021. They were for many the archetypal H-D cruiser and an ideal base for a custom machine.

Harley has tried its best to appease its often fickle customers, though, with bikes like the Nightster, Sportster S, and Softail Standard all designed to plug the sizable void the Sportster left in the range.

The thing is, they never quite captured the hearts of the real dyed-in-the-wool Harley fans, meaning used 883 and 1200 Sportsters hold their values well.

One model of particular interest to Sportster aficionados would be this version of Harley’s much-loved machine, the Custom 100th Anniversary special. Making this bike even more interesting is the fact that it seems to have lived its entire existence still in its factory crate, and as such is showing zero miles on the odometer. Still covered in all the original protective covers and packaging, the bike is a genuine time capsule, sealed up in 2003 and by the looks of it never touched since.

The bike is finished in Pearl White and is equipped with the 883ci V-twin mated to a five-speed transmission. Features include a single carburettor, a chrome dual exhaust system, an electric starter, disc brakes, a wire-spoke front wheel, a cast alloy rear wheel, a stepped two-up seat, and a side stand.

It’s also up for auction, and, should you be an American resident, (or willing to pay for the shipping and taxes to bring it to the UK) you can bid on it now on the website Bring A Trailer. There isn’t much time left to bid though, and at the time of writing the bids are sitting at $4,200 (around £3,100) and there are just two days left on the auction.
