Electric Bike Plug-in Grant Extended
The government will continue to offer those willing to make the switch to electric motorcycles a £500 grant

The government plug-in electric vehicle grant has been extended for another year, although the £500 bonus for switching to battery power will likely not make a huge difference.
The move to continue offering the grant on motorcycles, is just one of a number of plug-in grants offered to domestic and commercial road users in the UK. Compared to some of the other benefits offered to those buying bigger EVs, though, the benefit for bikers is a little on the small side.

Taxi drivers, for instance, making the switch to electric power for another year can expect £4,000, while businesses and van drivers can receive grants of up to £2,500 for small vans and up to £5,000 for larger vans up to 4.25 tonnes. Granted, the outlay for most electric bikes is much lower than that of cars, although the one-size-fits-all approach seems disparate, especially given that electric motorcycles can range in price from between £3,000 and £30,000.
Speaking about the extension of the grant, Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood, said:
“From van drivers and businesses, to drivers with accessibility needs, bikers and cabbies, today we are making it easier, faster and cheaper for people to switch to electric vehicles.
“By making the transition to zero emissions a success, we’re helping to drive growth all over the UK, putting more money in people’s pockets and rebuilding Britain to deliver our Plan for Change.”
