London Assembly Rep: Give Motorcyclists TfL voice
London motorcyclists may have a friend in the form of Keith Prince, a London Assembly representative who is calling for more action to improve motorcyclists safety
WITH motorcyclists making up 29 percent of all road deaths and serious injuries on London and the surrounding roads, it is surprising how often motorcycles are omitted by short-sighted rule-makers.

That may not always be the case though, as London motorcyclists may have a friend in the form of Keith Prince, London Assembly candidate for Havering & Redbridge. Mr Prince has published a report calling for London Mayor Sadiq Kahn to better represent all the people who ride a motorcycle within London. He also wants motorcyclists to have a voice within TfL, something that has largely been avoided by Mr Khan and previous London Mayors.
He also wants TfL and the Mayor to work with gig economy employers, many of whom use PTWs as a method of delivering their services. He suggests they set up some form of training for those working for them. He’s also pushing for more consistent rules on bus lane motorcycle use.
Writing in the Romford Recorder, Mr Prince said:
‘The mayor cannot continue to ignore this problem. For TfL to achieve its Vision Zero ambition to ensure no one is killed or seriously injured when travelling in London, it must make London’s streets safe for motorcyclists.’
‘Doing so would make motorbikes a more attractive transport option. A study in Belgium found that if 10pc of drivers switched to motorbikes, time losses for all vehicles would fall by 40pc and emissions would be cut by six percent. A 25pc shift would eliminate congestion completely.’
‘By making London safe for motorcycles, the mayor could transform the capital, saving lives, reducing congestion, and improving air quality.’
