Isle of Man TT-Winning Team Explains Shock Road Racing Exit
After winning the 2024 Isle of Man Senior TT race with Davey Todd, TAS Racing has confirmed it will focus on short circuit racing in 2025
The decision comes after TAS Racing has already lost Davey Todd to FHO Racing BMW, while the team itself has also changed brands after electing to run Ducati machinery.
With a focus on short circuit racing for 2025, the team will contest the upcoming BSB championship with a Panigale V4 R, as well as the Panigale V2 in the Supersport category.
“This is exciting for us,” said TAS Racing team principal Philip Neill at the recent Motorcycle Live show. “You need to find new challenges I think after a certain amount of years, and this one came about through circumstance.
“But I can’t say how happy I really am. Ducati is an iconic brand; I’ve always admired them from a distance and can’t wait for the opportunity to see what we can do.”
Losing Todd is not a reason for leaving the road racing scene, however, the jump to Ducati most certainly is as the Italian brand does not hold a big presence in road racing circles.
Instead, the Bologna-based manufacturer has dominated the biggest championships in recent years, whether that be MotoGP where it won the last three titles, World Superbike where it won two out of the last three and BSB, where Ducati was the 2023 champion with Tommy Bridewell.
Speaking about its road racing future beyond next season, Neill said: “What’s the saying, never say never. It's in our blood, we enjoy that side of things. But it is time for us right now to focus on British Superbikes. We want to win that championship.
“We’ve had lots of success in the other categories, in Superstock and Supersport, and have come very close in Superbike several times. But now we need to put our focus and effort in to try and win in Superbikes.”
