Manx GP Racer Disqualified After 'Non-Negative' Drug Test
Welsh road racer Alex Sinclair has been disqualified from the Manx GP following a drug test
Alex Sinclair was a competitor in the Classic Junior Series but has been excluded from the remainder of the event after testing non-negative for a recreational drug, it’s been confirmed.
A three-time Manx GP podium finisher, Sinclair has delivered brilliant performances prior to the 2024 running, but the Welsh rider tested positive during drug and alcohol screening protocols.
A statement from Manx GP organisers said: “ACU Events Ltd, Race Organiser of the Manx Grand Prix Races, can confirm that Alex Sinclair, a competitor in the Junior, Classic Junior, Classic Senior races has been excluded from the 2024 event following a non-negative test for a recreational drug.
“Sinclair, a regular competitor at the Manx Grand Prix since 2012, tested positive for the recreational drug in a random drugs test carried out as part of the event’s drug and alcohol screening protocols, and has been excluded from the event with immediate effect.
“The matter will be passed to the Auto-Cycle Union, the national governing body for motorcycle sport in Great Britain (less Northern Ireland). Sanctions for competitors caught doping can be a ban from ACU competitions for a minimum of two years.
“The Manx Grand Prix Races and ACU share a strict zero-tolerance policy for the presence of drugs and alcohol for officials and competitors during an event period.”
This year’s running of the Manx GP has already been hit with the sad news of Louis O’Regan losing his life after an accident at the weekend. Today’s action will continue from 6:30pm and is the second day of running after Monday’s three qualifying events were cancelled due to poor weather conditions. Qualifying will also take place on Wednesday and Thursday, ahead of racing which begins on Friday and ends on bank holiday Monday (26 August).
