Marc Marquez Nominated for Laureus Comeback of the Year Award

Marc Marquez is in the headlines again just days after completing a superb MotoGP double win in Thailand to kickstart his 2025 season, as he’s now been nominated for the Laureus Comeback of the Year Award.

Marquez is one of six athletes to be nominated for the award and he’s also the only sports star from the motorsport world in contention. The list of nominees also includes gymnast and Olympic gold medalist in Paris, Rebeca Andrade.

The news of Marquez’s nomination comes after making the best possible start to life at the factory Lenovo Ducati team, as he claimed pole position, sprint victory and Grand Prix success at last weekend’s season-opener in Thailand.

Marquez has been nominated thanks to his brilliant comeback season with Gresini Ducati in 2024, after the eight-time world champion left Honda following a lengthy spell of uncompetitiveness and injuries.

Since dislocating his right shoulder five years ago Marquez has suffered various other injuries, including shoulder fractures to the same one he broke in 2020 at Jerez, resulting in a total of four surgeries on that particular body part.

2024 was the first time since 2020 that Marquez managed to complete a full MotoGP season as he went on to win on three occasions, while also finishing third in the world championship behind Jorge Martin and current team-mate Francesco Bagnaia.

If 2024 was a redemption season which could end with a Laureus award for the six-time MotoGP champion, 2025 could be a year of domination if the first round was anything to go by as Marquez looked untouchable throughout the weekend.

Nominated athletes will find out if they’ve been selected when the Laureus awards take place on 21 April.

Other awards up for grabs at the Laureus ceremony include Sportsman and woman of the Year, while there’s also an award for best Breakthrough of the Year performer which consists of individual athletes and teams.
