Motorcycle Thief Jailed After Crashing Bike in Busy Town Centre
A 20-year-old riding a stolen motorcycle has been jailed after crashing in a town centre, narrowly avoiding pedestrians
20-year-old motorcycle thief, Ciaran Parker, has been jailed after stealing a Kawasaki 300 street bike out of someone’s back garden before going on to crash the bike in a town centre, narrowly avoiding members of the public including a mum and her two young children.
Chased by the police, the scumbag attempted to flee as he ignored the officer’s blue lights and demands to stop the motorcycle, which then led to Parker forcing a bus to stop before heading down a pedestrianised street at over 40mph.
While being chased by the police officer the 20-year-old continued to ride dangerously as he overtook vehicles at junctions, repeatedly rode over the speed limit, rode on the wrong side of the road and over a pedestrian crossing when the traffic light was red.
The offender, who crashed the motorcycle in the town of Chester-le-Street, was badly injured as a result of the violent crash as both himself and the motorcycle were sent airborne before skidding down the road.
This was the point when Parker and the bike nearly came into contact with the mother and two children, but thankfully no pedestrians were hit by the oncoming motorcycle and rider.
Parker suffered deep cuts to his head and received treatment at the side of the road before going to hospital, and although he initially lied to the police saying he had just bought the motorcycle, an investigation was launched which proved he stole the bike while also being under the influence of cocaine and cannabis at the time of the incident.
Parker has since pleaded guilty to the offences and appeared at Durham Crown Court on Thursday (February 13) where he was sentenced to 14 months in a Young Offender Institution.
Detective Constable Michelle Leonard, from Durham Constabulary’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was an incredibly dangerous piece of riding from Parker. He rode recklessly, at very high speeds through residential areas, often on the wrong side of the road, before crashing the bike in the middle of a busy town centre – it is a miracle nobody was seriously injured, or worse, killed.
“We welcome the sentence that has been handed to Parker today; I hope it sends a clear message that driving dangerously, without a licence, and under the influence of drugs can have catastrophic consequences and that those who choose to do it will be brought to justice.”
