New 2021 Ducati Monster Revealed | Specs, details and features
The 2021 Ducati Monster goes back to its roots with an emphasis on featherweight sporting fun... here is everything you need to know about the muscle bike
The launch of any new Ducati is an ‘event’ but for some models in the Italian firm’s range - such as the new 2021 Ducati Monster - it is more than that.
A motorcycle that has attempted to remain true to the ethos of the original, which rolled of the production line for the first time almost 30 years ago, the Ducati Monster is in many ways possibly the most ‘Ducati Ducati’ in its range.
Indeed, with 350,000 sales since 1993, it is a crucial model for Ducati so for 2021 the Monster receives a major overhaul with the emphasis placed on injecting a bit of brio into the muscle bike segment.
2021 Ducati Monster - Everything you need to know
As such, we get a familiar - yet different - look for 2021, together with a brand-new engine and, what Ducati insists, is a return to its roots as a featherweight that packs a punch.
At the Monster’s heart is the new 11-degree 937cc L-shaped twin-cylinder Testastretta engine, delivering 111hp at 9,250rpm, maximum torque of 69Ib-ft at 6,500rpm, which when coupled to a machine that weighs in at 166kg - following a shave of 18kg - should ensure a lively riding experience.
We will have to wait until we throw a leg over to tell you how the Monster rides but with Ducati’s new Quick Shift gearbox and three riding modes of Sport, Urban and Touring Ducati is promising “thrilling performance”, without compromising its useability during the more mundane point to point journeys.
As for the revised looks, while the Monster is certainly a recognisable silhouette with its signature ‘bison hump’ fuel tank, some have mourned the absence of the exposed trellis frame in favour of a fuller aluminium version, while others have pointed towards some MV Agusta Brutale inspiration in the design.
We should get our claws into the 2021 Ducati Monster early next year (COVID permitting) so until then get a closer look at the specs and performance here (above), as well as the rivals that will be vying for your attention when it comes to deposit-paying time.
