Yamaha launches 400cc X-MAX
Targets long-distance commuters seeking comfort and power
YAMAHA has announced a new 400cc version of its X-MAX scooter for 2013.
With 31.5 bhp and 25 lb-ft of torque from the liquid-cooled 395cc single, the new bike is capable of 90-plus mph, and should be pleasingly quick off the lights, as the 20 bhp/15.5 lb-ft X-MAX 250 is no slouch. Twin 267mm floating discs on the 15-inch front alloy wheel are tasked with hauling you down. The 211kg bike (31kg up on the 250cc version) is claimed to be the most compact in its class.
The X-MAX 400 wears freshened bodywork and features LED front position lights (a Yamaha scooter first) and LED tail lights, and has a sports instrument panel with on-board computer. Yamaha says the fit, finish and feel of the materials used in the bike’s "interior" are "equivalent to that found in a prestige car".
Priced at £5,399, the Yamaha X-MAX 400 will be available at the end of May. Official accessories include a 50-litre topbox, high screen / sport screen, leg shields, passenger back rest and Akrapovic exhaust.
