New Injury Means Martin Out of MotoGP Season Opener
Jorge Martin is reported to be out of the Thai MotoGP round after injuring his hand again during training

Jorge Martin’s 2025 MotoGP season just keeps getting worse, with reports suggesting he is set to miss the season-opening Thai MotoGP round thanks to another hand injury.
Nothing has been confirmed by the Aprilia team or Martin himself, although it's being reported by multiple outlets that Martin has fractured his left hand while training today [Monday 24 Feb]. The reigning MotoGP champion has already had a torrid start to the pre-season, after crashing his RSGP twice early in the pre-season test. It was hoped that the Spaniard would recover in time for the Thai Grand Prix, taking place this weekend. Those plans now though seem to be out the window.

What happens now for the number 1 plate is surgery on his newly injured hand, and quite possibly a lengthy period of recuperation for the Spanish star. The timeline for recovery is, understandably not known. On the one hand, he has one of the best motorsport surgeons working on the injury, in the form of Dr. Xavier Mir. But on the other, the Martinator is 27 years old and the older you get, the longer it takes to recover back to full fitness. With that in mind, it’s a possibility that he’ll also miss the Argentinian MotoGP round in two weeks.
As mentioned, at the time of writing, neither Aprilia nor Martin have officially acknowledged the injury. It has also not been confirmed whether or not another rider will be called upon to stand in for the injured champion in the coming rounds.
