Michelin boosts sports touring offering with Road 6
The new Michelin Road 6 hoops will arrive in 18 sizes including a GT variant for heavy weight touring and sports motorcycles
MICHELIN is boosting its road tyre range prior to the 2022 riding season beginning, as new Road 6 hoops are announced along with a specific GT variant.
With a long history of producing sports touring and road riding rubber, it’s no surprise to hear about the updates to the hoops for this year.
As ever, the new tyres are being claimed as having 15 per cent more grip in the wet, 10% longer life, and improved cold-weather performance. Sounds like an impossible task, and we’ll wait for a go on them before we pass a verdict. In the meantime, here’s what’s new.
The new Road 6 tyres have a new tread compound and tread pattern which Michelin has called Water Evergrip Technology. It features an optimised ratio of grooves to rubber (land to sea or void ratio are other names for it). What Michelin seem to have done is even out this ratio across the section of the tyre, meaning you have the same land to sea ratio when upright, as you do in a corner – well, that’s the theory anyway.
The carcass of the tyre has also been updated, with Michelin using Amplified Density Technology. It’s described as ‘a highly dense, and rigid compound that gives riders excellent feedback’. The Road 6s now also feature the 2CT+ dual compound on the front tyre for the first time.
The new Michelin Road 6 tyres are available in six front and eight rear sizes and also a new GT range for heavyweight sports and touring motorcycles. The GT hoops are available in one front, and three rear sizes.
We are hearing reports that UK Michelin dealerships are already taking collection of the new Road 6s. To find your nearest dealer, head to: www.michelin.co.uk
