Watsonian makes Grand Prix sidecar available for BSA Gold Star 650
It is now possible to attach a Watsonian Grand Prix sidecar to a BSA Gold Star 650, with each unit built to the specifications of each individual customer.
The BSA Gold Star is now able to be fitted with a sidecar from Watsonian, specifically their Grand Prix model.
The Watsonian Grand Prix sidecar takes its visual design inspiration from the Watsonian Sports sidecar from 1930, with its octagonal nose and aluminium beading.
A steel perimeter frame is connected to the motorcycle, in this case the revival BSA Gold Star 650, via four arms. These are “carefully positioned for a secure fit and stable handling,” a Watsonian press release reads.
A bucket seat is placed into the sidecar, and combines with hydraulic suspension to try to ensure a comfortable ride for the passenger, who is protected from the elements thanks to a Lexan screen.
Watsonian MD Ben Matthews said: “We've received a lot of enquiries about fitting sidecars to the new BSA Gold Star and we managed to obtain one of the first production bikes so we could develop a kit.
“With its torquey engine and traditional steel tubular frame, we could see straight away that it would be well suited to sidecar work. And its authentic styling made it a perfect match for our Grand Prix sidecar.”
Each Watsonian sidecar is made to order, meaning accessories can be added to suit each individual customer’s specific requirements. That also means prices are variable, but they start at £7,195 for the Grand Prix sidecar itself, while the fitting kit costs £495.
