Eight-times World Champion Marc Marquez has been cleared to progress with his recovery process and training after his latest arm surgery, following a medical check.

This latest check was perhaps the most important of former MotoGP World Champion Marquez’ recovery since his surgery in the week after the Italian Grand Prix in June.

The positive outcome means that “Marc Marquez has been given the green light to intensify his training and assess the condition of his arm on a motorcycle,” according to a Repsol Honda Team press release.

Marquez’ medical team - Dr. Joaquin Sánchez Sotelo, Dr. Samuel Antuña and Dr. Angel Cotorro - were all pleased with the recovery of Marquez’ humerus, the bone that was first injured in his crash at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix.

This means that, as well as being able to ride a motorcycle again for the first time since the beginning of June, Marquez will be able to increase the intensity of the other parts of his training, by “adding more weight and introducing more varied exercises into his routine,” the Repsol Honda Team press release says.

“Today, I had the opportunity to evaluate Marc Marquez in regard to his surgical procedure recently performed at Mayo Clinic,” said Dr. Joaquin Sánchez Sotelo. “Fortunately, Marc Marquez has regained a great arc of motion and has recovered well from a muscular perspective as well. Today, he underwent radiographs and a CT scan that show complete bone union.”

Previously, Alberto Puig had expressed his desire for Marquez - who was present at a Grand Prix for the first time since the aforementioned Italian race last weekend in Austria - to be back on the Honda RC213V MotoGP bike at the post-race test in Misano, which by now is in just under two weeks.

This news from Marquez’ recent medical check-up is a positive step towards that, although before Marquez actually rides a motorcycle it is difficult to say whether it will be possible for him to be in Misano.
