MotoGP 2014: Misano race results

VALENTINO Rossi took his first win of the 2014 MotoGP season at his home circuit in Misano after Marquez made a mistake at Rio corner.

It was Rossi's Factory Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo who took pole position, but Marquez joined in the battle at the front. After Rossi gained the lead from Lorenzo, Marquez was not giving up the fight until, on the 10th lap, Marquez's lean angle was too much and he went down at Rio corner.

Unfortunately the RC213V refused to restart until marshal's came to help the young Spaniard. By this point, Rossi and Lorenzo along with most of the MotoGP pack had already passed 21-year-old Marquez.

Rossi kept on pushing at the front with Lorenzo unable to match the nine-time World Champion's pace. Rossi crossed the line by 1.578s to much of the crowds delight. This was Rossis' 107th race win.

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa finished on the third step of the podium followed by Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso and Pramac Ducati's Andrea Iannone who will be joining the factory Ducati team next season.

Monster Yamaha Tech3's rookie Pol Espargaro finished in sixth place whilst his brother Aleix crashed out on the very last lap.

Pol Espargaro's team-mate and Brit Bradley Smith finished in seventh behind Pol.

Alvaro Bautista was able to finish a race for the GO&FUN Honda Gresini in eighth whilst Cal Crutchlow and Yonny Hernandez rounded out the top ten.
