MotoGP 2016: Championship standings after Argentina

MARC Marquez has taken to the top of the championship standings after winning the Argentinian GP ahead of Valentino Rossi.

With Lorenzo crashing out of the race, Marquez and Rossi were left to fight it out, with a mid-race bike change playing a crucial role in the proceedings.

Marquez took the win with Andreas Dovizioso and Iannone looking to take the second and third places on the podium until Iannone took out himself and his team-mate, leaving Rossi to claim second in front of Dani Pedrosa.

Marquez now has an eight-point advantage over Rossi. Lorenzo is down in fourth after his DNF. After finishing an astonishing fourth in Argentina, Irishman Eugene Laverty is up the standings to eigth with British rider Bradley Smith only one point behind in ninth.

Iannone, Cal Crutchlow, Yonny Hernandez and Loris Baz are still to pick up any points so far this season.
