TT Legend Gets New Role During IoM TT Races
With 17 TT wins and 31 podiums to his name, Dave Molyneux is one of the most successful and respected sidecar competitors at the event
Dave Molyneux may have turned the page on his TT racing career during the 2024 event, but he’ll still have a presence at the races going forward, as he takes up new roles within the organisation.
Molyneux, who has amassed 17 TT wins and an incredible 31 podium finishes across his 37-year career, will take up two new roles in the 2025 event as he becomes Sidecar Liaison Officer and the Technical Delegate for ACU Events Ltd.
Molyneux’s new roles will see him acting as a representative between the Race Organiser and the Race Promoter, while also assisting with the training and coaching of newcomer sidecar TT competitors. As the Technical Delegate for the ACU at the event, Molyneux will also work alongside the Technical Directors in formulating the regulations and developing the rulebook that sidecar racers will have to follow moving forward.
Speaking about his appointment in the new roles, Molyneux said:
“Competing at the TT has meant everything to me for over 40 years, so calling time on my racing was always going to be a tough decision, but the podium this year was the perfect sign off. It then became a question of ‘what next’, and I’m really pleased to have been asked to bring my experience into an official capacity.”
“Sidecars at the TT are in a really good position at the moment. Obviously there are some new names at the top, but there are also some really promising newcomers coming on to the scene, and I’m really looking forward to helping them however I can and helping the class develop as a whole in to the future.”
One person who Molyneux will be working very closely with in the coming years is the Clerk of Course during TT events, Gary Thompson MBE BEM. He added:
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Dave into the Race Organisation. Across both two wheels and three, he is one of the greatest competitors to ever compete at the TT, and I’m certain that his experience as a competitor and knowledge as an engineer will prove invaluable across the race organisation.”
Aside from his racing exploits, Dave Molyneux has also designed and built his own sidecars under the Dave Molyneux Racing banner. He also played a lead role in the documentary film called 3 Wheeling which was filmed during the 2016 TT races.
