THE DAVID Silver Honda collection opened its doors to the public this week, with James May and ex-Honda rider and three-time world champion Freddie Spencer present for the official opening.

The collection, said to be the largest of classic Japanese bikes outside of Japan, is at Leiston in Suffolk. It features over 150 bikes from the 1950s to 1990s, starting with the first Dream models and the Cub F-Type, and ending with the Fireblade, and is a tribute to the legacy of Sochiro Honda.

Along with the bikes on display, there’s also a 100-metre-long Honda timeline display that details the year-by-year history of Honda bikes, plus a selection of TV screens displaying videos of old factory tours and other films related to Honda’s two-wheeled history.

The whole lot is all house in a new purpose-built showroom on the same site as the parts department, which, if you’ve ever owned an old Honda, you’re almost certain to have dealt with.

Admission is £10 for adults, £5 for over 65s and free for under 16s when accompanied by an adult and you can click here for the website.
